Unmistakably, at a young age, thinking of our future is the least of our concerns. Due to our lighthearted nature as children, the last thing we are worried about is growing old and living our own lives. But, with the help and guidance of our parents, we are easily convinced to start thinking straight and plan for our future.
Such is what occurred to this guy who was forced by his mom to freeze his sperm. Jason Kotas from Denver, Colorado, was diagnosed with bone cancer in 1995 after a baseball-sized tumor was found just behind his left shoulder. In order to treat his illness, he needed to undergo surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy sessions for over a year at the Children’s Hospital of Colorado.
Regrettably, the doctors warned him that the procedure might leave him sterile. Obviously, Jason didn’t mind but his parents did. Because of this, his mom made him ejaculate in a jar so that they could freeze his sperm in case Jason wanted to have children in the future.
The young boy was against this idea, saying that he never wants to have children in the first place. His mother, on the other hand, made him do it since they wanted to have the option of having grandchildren later in life.
Fast forward to the present and Jason married Emily. Just like any other newlywed couple, the two of them thought of beginning a family of their own. Sadly, Jason remembered that he couldn’t do so because of the treatments he received when he was a child.
Fortunately, he also remembered that his mother advised him to have some of his sperm frozen 22 years ago. Thanks to his parents, Emily was able to conceive through in-vitro fertilization, where the sperm is injected directly into a woman’s egg cells so that she could conceive.
Now, the couple has a baby who they named Sam. Emily says, “It’s fascinating that half of little Sam was created 20 plus years ago,”
